Seamless backward compatibility for Notes applications

Installation wizard has a few new feature choices - Notes Optional Components, Activities, Sametime (integrated), Productivity Tools, Composite Application Editor
This list can be modified to include ISV applications, using the Eclipse/Expeditor framework.

Included in R8 client are new IBM editors
  • wordprocessor
  • spreadsheet
  • presentation

Can all read and write Office, Smartsuite and Open Doc

Upgrade process
Supported from Notes 6.5 and Notes 7
Software Upgrade and update/fix process is the same as with R7

Mail template upgrade
Can be manually or automatically upgraded
Policy documents can be used to configure the upgrade
        - Prompts for which template
        - Prompts folder upgrade notificaion
        - Notifies administrators

Users can initiate updates and upgrades and installations of plugins.
This can be managed and controlled by policy - manage the update site list, require signed plugins etc.
